  • What Patients are Reading: Outpatient Hip Replacement Surgery

Two articles in the news this week took a look at outpatient hip replacement surgery. Both articles covered the technique and patient experience and included perspectives from several AAHKS members. The article in The Wall Street Journal explored the anterior approach and reported, “the technique is considered harder to master partly because the surgeon has less room to maneuver around the joint than with the posterior approach. But some surgical experts say there isn’t sufficient data to assert the technique is superior to traditional methods.” The article in the Naples Daily News focused on short stays and reported, “The postoperative hospital stay after total hip and knee replacement has shortened with improvements in technique, technology, and pain management.”
