A study published in the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery this week concludes that overweight patients who undergo hip or knee replacement surgery experience pain relief and functional gain similar to other patients. Researchers at the University of Massachusetts, who include several AAHKS members, “concluded that while obesity is associated with a greater risk of early complications, obesity in itself should not be a deterrent to undergoing total joint replacement to relieve symptoms.”  Full story.
