AAHKS Comments on AHRQ VTE Prophylaxis Review

A letter sent to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) from AAHKS Executive Director, Michael J. Zarski, JD on behalf of the Evidence Based Medicine and Research Committees, outlines major concerns about the AHRQ’s draft manuscript, “Comparative Effective Review: Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Prophylaxis in Major Orthopaedic Surgery.” The three points of concern are:

  1. Studies that assessed both asymptomatic and symptomatic events
  2. The balance between efficacy and safety in selecting a prophylactic regiment
  3. Limited discussion about anti-platelet agents

Read the AAHKS letter for complete details.

AAHKS President, William A. Jiranek, MD, FACS collaborated with AAOS President, Gerald Williams, Jr., MD on another letter asking the AHRQ to address “significant methodological flaws.” Read the AAHKS/AAOS letter.
